This week it's Anna Dressed In Blood

I make for the stairs, and that's when she sends the water, fishing in and rising up from everywhere--cracks in the walls, seeping up right through the floor. It's filthy, as much slime as it is liquid, and in seconds it's creeping up to my waist. I start to panic as the corpse of the bum with the broken neck floats past.

Musing Mondays { 1 }

This is my first Musing Monday!
Musing Monday Is hosted by MizB from Should Be Reading click Here to check it out!
This week's question is: Do you Listen to audiobooks? Why, or why not?

When I was younger my dad would drive to Chicago to pick me up from visiting my mom and bring me back to Toronto (I believe this was a 7 hour drive something like that) and on the way back home to Toronto we would listen to an audio tape of a book usually of a mystery. They were fun because I was with my dad so we could laugh at certain parts together or try to guess the mystery. That was the only time I ever listened to audio tapes.
I don't really have an interest in listening to books on tape. I prefer the book in my hand and envisioning the characters myself. Besides, My attention span is horrible when I'm listening. I would have to rewind and listen to the scene again if I was listening on to an audiobook.

Review: The Knife of Never Letting Go

Publisher: Candlewick Press
Series: Chaos Walking Book One
Edition: Paperback
Pages: 479
Rating: 4.5/5
Genre: Young Adult Dystopian

Prentisstown isn't like other towns. Everyone can hear everyone else's thoughts in an overwhelming, never-ending stream of Noise. Just a month away from the birthday that will make him a man, Todd and his dog, Manchee -- whose thoughts Todd can hear too, whether he wants to or not -- stumble upon an area of complete silence. They find that in a town where privacy is impossible, something terrible has been hidden -- a secret so awful that Todd and Manchee must run for their lives.
But how do you escape when your pursuers can hear your every thought?

Whew. That was some book!!
So this book is another dystopian novel and I tend to eat those up pretty rapidly and this wasn't any different. This book was LOADED with humor, friendship, heartbreak, GORE, and mystery. It had everything that a great dystopian book needs to be successful; at least in my eyes. I remember looking on the back cover and it said ages 14+. Personally I think this should be 16+ AT LEAST.
This book definitely has a unique writing style and it something you have to get use to. It was a little frustrating to me at first and I didn't like it or understand why it was needed. The deeper you get into the story is when you realize that the writing NEEDED to be like that and I ended up loving it! The characters all had their own quirks. Todd was determined and a hero. Manchee was funny and had true love for his master Todd. I won't give out any other characters, but they all had things to love and hate about them. Some of them were downright scary!

The only thing that held me back from giving this a full 5 stars is that some of the book was a bit confusing and was sometimes hard to follow, but once you get use to the writing style it flows perfectly.

*This is exactly what I want out of a dystopian and I was not disappointed.

IMM & Book Haul [ 1 ]

Booking Through Thursday

Booking Through Thursday is a weekly meme hosted by > Booking Through Thursday <  and a different question is posted every week.

Do your reading habits change when you’re on vacation? Do you read more? Do you indulge in lighter, fluffier books than you usually read? Do you save up special books so you’ll be able to spend real vacation time with them? Or do you just read the same old stuff, vacation or not?

Well, usually when I'm going on vacation I read the most when I travel. So on planes and in the car. ( If I'm not driving ) Usually I bring just a couple books that I'm interested in at the time, nothing special really. When I get to the actual vacation I don't read. If I'm with my family I spend most of my time with them and having a good time. When I went to Virginia Beach in May I didn't bring anything to read because I was way too busy trying to do a bunch of things! :)

Ps: Thanks Erin for letting me ninja your picture >:)

Book Review

Waterfall
By: Lisa T. Bergren

"What do you do when your knight in shining armor lives, literally, in a different world?

Publisher: David C Cook
Series: The River of Time Series book 1
Edition: Paperback
Pages: 369
Rating: 5/5
Genre: Young Adult

Gabi and her sister Lia are bored out of their minds in italy while stuck, on yet, another archeological site with their mother. Exploring one of the hidden tunnels, Gabi and Lia come across something that has two handprints. Curious, they both place their hand into the prints and find themselves a few years back in time; the fourteenth-century to be exact. Gabi soon finds herself falling for someone who is 700 years older and feels a undeniable connection to him.

**Let me start off by saying that this is perhaps, the best book I have read in a very VERY long time. I tend to be a extremely critical person when it comes to books and when I don't like something, I'm not afraid to give my honest opinion about how I feel.**

Where do I even begin with this review? I haven't seen many reviews on this book on both youtube and blogspace, its almost as if this book is flying under the radar. You will not be disappointed with this book, it is absolutely amazing. Gabi is an extremely strong and mature character in this book but its not so much where she is not relatable. Her sister is only 15 but Lia also demonstrates how wise she is beyond her years.

As a lover of the medieval era and pretty much anything to do with history this was exactly my type of book. However! If you are not into that type of novel do not worry! This book is AMAZING! Please don't let anything scare you from giving this a try. There are Christian elements to this book but its not overwhelming to the point where the artist is preaching to you. DO NOT WORRY!

The romance in this book? Perfection. Not too much where it was over the top, and just enough to leave you wanting more and more.

Did I have any problems with this book? NO! A couple things might have bugged me but It wasn't a big deal that it took me out of the story. Please give this book a chance! I loved it! :)

Book cover: Really like the font used on the cover, and it has a medieval kind of look.

Characters: Liked that the book was in Gabi's point of view. Romantic interest was amazing, perfect "Knight in shining armor!"

Writing: Flowed really well, definitely a page turner.

Ending: Perfect.

Okay this isn't a book but..

Evanescence just released a new album today
I am SO EXCITED!!!
You guys should seriously give it a listen, I think its the best they have ever been!

It's October

I love October.
It's seriously my favorite month of the entire year.
I love going on haunted hay rides and going into haunted houses with friends.
I love the smell of this month, ( well the smell of fall ) When I would walk home I would crunch all the leaves underneath my shoes, and just have a bunch of bonfires.
So, I thought I would challenge myself to something this month.
I'm going to read 8 books that have a "scare" element to them.
"Pft, Jessica.. 8 books is nothing!" To that I say this:
Yes 8 books, ON TOP of the books I already need to finish this month. Aka.. Thats a lot of books.
So these are the books I am attempting to finish this month!

Series I love!

So.. I'm excited.
I have been waiting for this series to arrive in my mailbox for almost a month.
I blame my friend Erin.
You rock.
I can't wait till I can read all of these. I shall be doing
a review on them when I finish them!
